June 28th Nature Walk
For this walk, I went to lewis morris park which is connected to Patriots path, 90 miles of trails that date back to the revolutionary war. I had a super busy morning so I brought my dog and used this walk as a time to relax. The weather was really nice out today, about 70º, sunny, and a slight breeze. I saw a bunch of different plant species ranging from tiny grass plants to giant trees. I also saw a lot of birds, squirrels, and small fish, but I wasn't able to get good pictures of them. As I was making my observations I thought a lot about the methods of seed/ gamete dispersal because it was so prominent in a lot of the plants I saw. For example, I observed the different methods of pollination, wind dispersal, and animal dispersal through berries all on a short walk. I also thought a lot about conservation biology because I saw some pieces of plastic trash on the trails (which I picked up) and I could only imagine how long it would take for the plastic to degrade in nature.
