Like many other subjects, this one took me some time to get used to my presence, so this Tui tested my resolution untill the third day and finally it posed for me, dressed to impress in this gorgeous portrait at its "dinner table". It is the best Tui shot I got in 17 years here in New Zealand.

Tui mimicking things around This happened about 25/march/2005, at Cadi’s house (where I was a flatmate) in Fernhill, Queenstown, New Zealand and was a surprise on learning how skilled is the Tui bird (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae) at mimicking things around. I was getting back to home from working as hammerhand in the Sofitel Hotel site construction, tired and happy, when I listened an unfamiliar dog’s barking “Bau! Bau! Bau!” and though it looks like a strange dog was visiting Pedro, the resident dog. I started search for a dog but did not succeed and listened the barking again, above my head. Them I looked above and saw a Tui bird on the fence mimicking Pedro’s barking: “Bau! Bau! Bau!”. I knew about this Tui’s capability, however seeing this happening in front of me was a delightful experience and it increased my admiration for this amazing bird.
