Biodiversity in America
When you venture onto public lands to celebrate NPLD 2024 and look closely, you will find a diversity of living things sharing those public lands. Biodiversity is the variety of living things in an area – the different plants, animals, fungi, and microorganisms. The United States of America is home to thousands of species of organisms. Unfortunately, biodiversity both in America and globally is declining at unprecedented extinction rates. Threats to biodiversity include habitat loss and degradation, invasive species, climate change, overexploitation, and pollution. NPLD is a day to join together to ensure our precious natural spaces can thrive for generations to come.
