How to make sure your observations are making it onto our project page

Hi everyone,

We hope everyone is safe and well!

This week, we wanted to provide you with some tips and tricks to making sure your observations are making it onto our project page and contributing to our project! iNaturalist can seem challenging at first, so here is the best way to check that observations you are making in iNaturalist are being received in the Lorikeet Paralysis syndrome project:

  1. Once you are signed into iNaturalist, click the person in the top right hand corner of your screen.
  2. You are now in your profile, where you can select 'Observations'
  3. This will show you all the observations you have made on iNaturalist! Next, click on an observation you would like to check has made it onto our project page.
  4. Scroll down the observation until you see a heading that says 'Project' on the right hand side.
  5. If under 'Project', it says the 'Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome Project', congratulations! This means the observation has been successfully added to the project.
  6. If the 'Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome Project' is not under the 'Project' heading, it means it has not been added to the project. Fear not! To add it to the project page, simply type in 'Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome Project' where it says 'Add to a project'. It will then pop up with some questions, which you can answer if you know the plant species the lorikeet was seen feeding on. Then click the 'Add to project' option in green.

We hope this is helpful to anyone unsure if there observations are making it to the right place, or for anyone who wants to go back and check their previous observations. Please leave a comment if anyone has any questions or needs further assistance.

Keep safe and happy Rainbow Lorikeet spotting!

Kind regards,
Lauren, David, Maya

Appreciation week

Hi everyone,

This week we want to give you guys a shout out for all the amazing work you are doing for the project! In particular we want to put the spotlight on our amazing citizen scientists who have identified the most species: @cooroy (3 species), @laura_free19 (4 species), @janice220 (9 species), @gmess (11 species), and @suwoods with an amazing achievement of 20 species! It is because of you guys that we are coming to understand the range of plant species that Rainbow Lorikeets feed on.

We would also like to put the spotlight on our amazing citizen scientists who have contributed the most observations to the project: @veronque (8 observations), @gmess (11 observations), @m_v (20 observations), @janice220 (24 observations), and again, the amazing @suwoods providing a whooping 62 observations to the project! It is because of you guys that we are beginning to understand what species of plants are being fed on by Rainbow Lorikeets all over our study area.

We are incredibly grateful to all of our citizen scientists for the time and effort you put into the project. We wouldn't be closer to solving this syndrome without your great work.

Kind regards,
Lauren, David, Maya
