With 2 ornithologists whose names have been lost. One of only two remaining breeding colonies in Florida -- and the larger of the two. A male (blue cere) feeding his daughter (barred forehead, pink cere).

• Only known location for this species in Maryland at this time. Interestingly, location is close to previous nesting attempt locations. Building a nest on a power line stanchion at the power line cut on Mt Pleasant Road. Not established in the state yet, so active monitoring is ideal.

I had never seen a clawed frog larger than a couple inches. This monster was approaching 6 inches. I suspected it was a clawed frog at the time, but I really didn't know because of the size. In hindsight, I probably should have brought it home to live in an aquarium. It may have grown so large by feeding on the other amphibians in this playa.
