I'm not certain, but I think this is a lesser goldfinch that lost its color for the winter. It was darker outside than the picture would imply. It was sleeping in some dead sunflowers and had no issues with me walking right up to it for pictures. I wish I took more but I didn't want to disturb it too much more. It was gone without a trace (aside from a splat of poop) this morning, so despite it's seeming lack of care for the wacky human shining lights at it the night before, I assume it's fine and healthy somewhere.
The calls were mountain chickadee calls.
