The tepals on this individual were longer than usual and the capsules were filled with blackish granules that crumbled into a fine charcoal-like powder. This was perhaps the result of a fungal attack. However, the cartilaginous, orange auricles are obvious

He pointed out the cartilaginous ligule is what distinguishes it from the papery one of J. tenuifolius
Plant is also larger and infloresence is more upright.
