I spotted this Dudleya plant in bloom off the Eaton Canyon Trail.
Numerous honeybees were flying in and out of this cavity at the base of a big oak tree.
I believe that some of these hummingbird moths may have flown past me speedily over the last few times I’ve been hiking in Eaton Canyon. Today, this one stopped at one of the black sage bushes, and for at least five minutes I watched it fly and hover to gather nectar from some of the many flowers on that bush. In one of the photos you can see it drinking from one of the sage flowers.
Feeding on prickly phlox
Two quail walked across the trail ahead of me & then disappeared into the brush.
Quite a few lesser gold finches were eating in amongst some of the blooming plants.
