Ate a quick dinner before going to the Heard to listen to some master naturalist presentations! Spotted a fairly active heron rookery in this wooded area too.
This whole area gets more loud and gross smelling as time goes on
This here is a yellow garden spider also known as Argiope aurantia. This species is an orb-weaving arachnid commonly found in gardens & fields. The spider is known for its distinctive web, which can be up to 2 feet in diameter & has a dense zigzag of stabilimentum. The spider uses it web to catch prey, signaling vibrations that indicates a catch. The venom of the yellow garden spider is harmless to humans but effective for capturing smaller insects.
