Bromus, possibly catharticus. Doesn't seem quite right.
This plant was about 3 inches in diameter with very tiny flowers and fruits. The leaves were no bigger than my fingertips.
This bull mallow plant was lying prostrate on the ground, but when I raised the stem, it was waist high (~35 inches). I was so preoccupied with getting good photos of the fruits that I forgot to get a shot of the entire plant, which had three main stems and was lying prostrate on the ground next a thicket of thistles. I think the cows trampled it.
This bull mallow plant was knee-high (~20 inches tall). It looks like the tops of the plant have been nibbled on, perhaps by the nearby herd of cows?
It was growing in the shade under some oak trees. There was a small creek nearby.
This plant was about 12 inches in diameter. The flowers and fruits were very small.
This plant was about 6 inches tall and narrow (only a few inches wide). The flowers and fruits were tiny as well.
? Single specimen about 3m High, unbranched, in native regen kauri forest margin. Along with the surrounding forest edge, this specimen was almost covered by pink jasmine until release over the last month.
Could anybody identify this tree which the monarchs were on? Sorry for terrible ID pics.
Scattered plants growing it the grassland. Still called B. stamineus in NZ.
