Idk whether this is the same one that I later saw perched (213033785)
I'd never seen one before, so I went to a park where they'd been reported. After a fruitless search at one of the observation sites, I moved on to another. Stuck in my head was that this species normally perches on the ground. Was getting close to giving up when I saw a blue ode out on vegetation over the water. Thought: probably a pondhawk, but I haven't seen one yet this season so what the heck?!
As soon as I zoomed in, I got suspicious. Fingers crossed, I took a lot of pix. And, yes!
I should have read more carefully; apparently, males perching on vegetation in the afternoon is also typical.
Little Pond, Paint Creek
I added a second pic of ode
