I could observe them upclose for at least 45 minutes before she at last had enough of him and slithered into a bush. He was quickly to follow her there.
It is currently unclear what subspecies these two are part of as V. b. berus and V. b. marasso both occure in the northern margins of the alps and there haven't been any genetic studies done in the area. But the discontinuous zig-zag pattern is typical for V. b. marasso, so I would lean to this subspecies (especially with the female).
