Volkspark Friedrichshain, Berlin, Germany. June 29, 2022

I went on a walk today at a park in Berlin. The weather was warm but not too sunny, and a little windy. I found some species of plants - a hazel, an oak, and some flowers I was not able to identify. As a budding ecologist, I attempted to make some observations about the species I encountered that I tied back to the lecture material on evolutionary relationships between organisms, their environment, and their ecosystems. For example, I considered the Catalpas tree I found - in German, it Is called a "Trompetenbaum" - literally a "trumpet tree" due to a very specific elongated conical shape of its flowers. This led me to think of a symbiotic relationship this plant has established with its pollinators - its flowers are shaped in a way that would enable some smaller insects to enter, but not the larger ones.

Volkspark Friedrichshain, Berlin, Germany. June 10, 2022

I went on an hour long walk in a park not far from my parents' apartment in Berlin. It was warm and sunny, but not too hot, so I really enjoyed the walk. One of the reasons my family adores this place is for its natural beauty - neat paths lead past lush green meadows down to a lake overshadowed by magnificent, tall oak trees and slender weeping willows. However, this park presents much more than a mere object of aesthetic appreciation, as it is a veritable treasure trove of biodiversity
