Hammond Pond Walk June 10, 2022
Today I took about a 40 minute walk through the trails near Hammond Pond in Chestnut Hill. The weather was very warm and partly cloudy. I saw lots of plant diversity as there the area is quite diverse with the pond and wetland, forest, as well as rocky areas. I tried to capture images of organisms found from the various sub-habitats for example the water lilies from the pond itself, the chipmunks from the forest, and mosses from damper areas of the forest. I believe almost all of my 20 observations were plants and I might have gotten all of the main groups! I was a bit surprised by the level of plant diversity just because of how close the pond is to the highway and subsequent suburbs; because I live in downtown Boston I sometimes forget such diverse nature can be so close. I did not note any fungi, and hardly any animals besides a few birds and chipmunks. I only got a picture of one bird, but I saw and heard quite a few.
