I'm thoroughly smitten by moths. Although I spend much time using Moth Photographers Group and BugGuide to ID moths, I make plenty of mistakes and I'm happy to receive corrections.

After leaving a biodiverse property in northern Indiana and relocating to a boring residential neighborhood in central Indiana in 2019, I felt disconnected from nature. So, I took up mothing to reconnect. As of January 2024, I've photographed around 1,300 moth species in Indiana. Most of these are on iNat and I'm slowly adding them to BugGuide.

I enjoy mothing on the prairies and oak savannas at The Nature Conservancy's Kankakee Sands (Newton Co., IN). I lead our Friends of the Sands group and we host many moth and butterfly events as well as other natural history programs that highlight the biodiversity of the Kankakee Sands ecoregion. In 2023, I began giving presentations on moths and holding night-time mothing events for various nature centers and organizations around Indiana. My hour-long presentation, entitled "Welcome to the Dark Side: Mothing in Indiana," covers the stunning diversity of moths, their importance in terrestrial ecosystems, and how we sustain and support them in our backyards.
