I have no formal training in Biology or the Life sciences and no scientific credentials, but have always had an interest in different creatures I have encountered only by chance while out hiking, camping, backpacking, fishing, trail running or mountain biking. Most recently I have been exploring the southern california deserts, usually in spring or the fall. My favorite things to find are the rarer reptiles such as the horned lizard, desert iguana, mojave fringe-toed lizard, sidewinder, and of course the desert tortoise, my favorite. I have a (legally adopted, Calif State DFG) 12-lb. pet male Desert Tortoise, (Gopherus agassizii) have had him since 2008. Estimated his age to be 60+ years as of 2024.
